More Isn't More: Katie Whatley on Why FFAIR Is Leaning Into Being Human

In this ReelFlow LinkedIn Live, Chris Wickson sat down with Katie to talk about why FFAIR is deliberately pulling back on AI-generated content, what's replacing it, and why leaning into being human is turning out to be the actual growth strategy for 2027.

Katie Whatley has a three-word answer for the AI content gold rush sweeping B2B marketing: more isn't more. As CMO at FFAIR, the exhibitor platform her CEO built after living its core problem himself, Katie tested what AI could do for email and social content this year, and watched performance climb for a few sends before dropping off a cliff.

Key Takeaways

  • "More isn't more" isn't a slogan, it's Katie's whole operating philosophy: with 10 to 20 marketing tactics available instead of the old five or six, doing more of them isn't the win, cutting the noise is.
  • AI content has a shelf life: FFAIR's AI-built email workflow and AI-assisted social posts performed fine for the first few sends, then dropped off hard, so the team is deliberately pulling back for 2027.
  • 2027 means more humanity, not more automation: FFAIR's plan for next year is to bring more human presence into marketing, while keeping AI for the unglamorous process work behind the scenes.
  • Authenticity is the one thing competitors can't copy: FFAIR's origin story, its CEO built the platform after living the pain of exhibiting himself, does more trust-building work than any polished campaign.
  • Traffic up, demos flat is a story problem, not a volume problem: FFAIR's website traffic and brand awareness climbed steadily this year, but demo bookings stalled. More content wasn't the fix, a clearer story was.
  • AEO doesn't replace the human story, it protects it: HubSpot now shows Katie exactly which visitors arrive via ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity, but her AEO audits still have to preserve a page that reads like it was written by, and for, a person.

"More Isn't More": Katie's Operating Philosophy

A decade ago, Katie says, marketers had five or six real tactics to choose from. Now there are ten to twenty, and AI means any one of them can be scaled almost infinitely. Katie's answer to that abundance isn't to use more of it, it's to work out what's actually cutting through and do less of everything else.

More options don't require more output. They require a sharper answer to what's actually working.

2. The AI Experiment That Worked, Until It Didn't

FFAIR used Claude to analyse three years of email performance and build an eight-to-ten email workflow, then tested AI-assisted social posts the same way. The email sequence performed okay, but not as well as FFAIR's regular, human-written emails, and dropped off significantly further into the sequence. The social posts followed a different pattern: strong for the first few, then a sharp drop by the third or fourth post.

AI can get you a good first few sends. It can't yet get you a good fifteenth one.

3. Why 2027 Is About Leaning Into Being Human

<iframe src="https://www.veed.io/embed/00e21856-7cce-470b-bf3f-689dbb5f5fd4?watermark=0&color=&sharing=0&title=0" width="744" height="504" frameborder="0" title="Katie Linkedin Live Part 4" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>

FFAIR's plan for next year isn't to abandon AI, it's to be deliberate about where it sits. Documentation, data sorting, and the unglamorous process work stay automated. Emails, social content, and the story in front of buyers get more human input, not less.

Use AI for the work nobody wants to do by hand, and put people back into the work that's supposed to sound like a person.

4. The Story Competitors Can't Copy

FFAIR's founding story, a CEO who built the platform after living the pain of exhibiting himself, is doing more trust-building work than any AI-polished campaign could. It shows up again in FFAIR's 16 live case studies (most competitors run four or five), which customers hand over willingly because the product and the story both hold up.

A real founding story and real proof are the two things no AI tool can generate on your behalf.

5. From Static Funnel to Real Behaviour: Traffic Up, Demos Flat

FFAIR's website traffic and brand awareness metrics climbed steadily through the year, but demo bookings stalled, exposing the old lead, nurture, MQL, SQL model as too rigid for how buyers actually research now. Search itself has become a behaviour scattered across many channels rather than a single, trackable one, and closing the gap took a clearer, faster story on the site, not more top-of-funnel content.

If your top-of-funnel metrics are healthy but demos aren't moving, the story on your site is the missing piece, not another campaign.

Summary

The thread running through this conversation is simple: FFAIR could produce more emails, more social posts, more content than ever with AI, and for a while, it did exactly that. What Katie's team learned is that output scales a lot faster than trust does. Real trust came from an authentic founding story, real case studies, a website built for both AI systems and human visitors, and a go-to-market built on relationships with smaller customers rather than the biggest logos first. For any CMO watching traffic climb while demos stall, Katie's answer isn't a new tactic. It's fewer of them, done with more of the humanity that got FFAIR started in the first place.
